YW in Excellence

We had our YW in Excellence program on Wednesday. It went soooo well! The theme was God's Crown Jewels. I was in charge of refreshments and Ane asked me to make a cake. So I did. I baked and layered the top layer, let it settle for a few hours and then frosted it, let it settle some more and then put the fondant on. When I got up in the morning (the day of the activity), the cake had settled even more! I had to take the fondant off, carve the cake so it was round again, go to the store to buy more butter for the frosting and more marshmallows for the fondant, make more frosting and fondant and do it all over again! I tried using the Wilton glitter gels for the jewels, and when I put them on, it started dripping. I kept trying to fix it and finally gave up because I was so sick of working on this cake. That is why the middle jewel looks like crap. I also didn't feel like making a whole new batch of icing made out of crisco just to do a little bit of decorating, so I used my buttercream that was actually made out of butter instead of crisco, and well...of course it melted as I was working, so my straight lines on the harlequin pattern aren't so straight! haha! Oh well! Again...I was so frustrated with this cake, I just reached the point of not caring! I could have done better, but 15 hours of working on this cake was more than I could handle for a YW's activity. Oh well! It was still delicious, though!

Halloween Pillowcases

Tim's mom made us all Christmas pillowcases and I thought it was such a cute idea, so I made us some Halloween pillowcases. I made Gavin's and then one of mine and Tim's. After I cut out the fabric for the other one, I realized I cut it wrong! AH! So frustrating! So now I have to go back to the store and get more fabric so Tim can have a matching pillowcase! Grrrrr I wish I had the stuff for piping. It makes the case look so much better! Oh well...Something I won't forget for next time.

Wilton Course 2

I just finished the Wilton Course 2 class. Here's the final cake. Nothing special or super cool, but it was fun to learn and do. I enjoyed learning how to make all the different kinds of the flowers and Gavin REALLY enjoyed eating them. The antenni on the bees broke off...oh well. I REALLY hate working with chocolate frosting. It doesn't work as smoothly as regular buttercream...hence all the sloppiness.

Sugar Cookies

For our Family Home Evening activity we made Halloween sugar cookies. The majority of the cookies that Gavin helped with ended up with palm prints and finger prints in them. Super cute!

Check out all the little Gavin prints

When left alone with dad...

About 20 minutes after I left for YW's, I get a call from Tim. Gavin is SCREAMING in the background. Gavin had been running back and forth on the couch and lost his balance. He fell face first onto the edge of the cocktail table. He chipped his top front tooth and his bottom teeth went into his lip. We thought his teeth had gone all the way through because of the cut on the outside of his lip, but luckily they didn't. He cut his mouth up inside and out pretty bad. He had a fat lip for a couple of days and kept asking me to kiss the inside of his mouth better. He looks great now except for a few scabs.

I'm Too Sexy For My Shirt

Gavin LOVES to pose. Every time we ask him to smile, he immediately rolls his eyes to the side and smiles...every time.

Showing off his new Lightening McQueen jacket that Mom-mom (my mom) bought him along with his Lightening McQueen shoes
If he has a jacket that has a hood, he insists on having the hood on
He had a shirt that had a hood. He insisted on wearing the hood AND literally demanded us to zip up the zipper on the jacket AND snap up the collar

One of the guys

Today we worked on my mom's garden. We did the same stuff that we did to mine last week...tear down the plants, put them in bags and turn the soil in the beds. Gavin loves hanging out with the guys and refused to be left behind when my dad and Tim took all the bags of plants to the dump. So, they squished his carseat into the my dad's little truck so he could go with. He was SO excited for this.

When they got home, Tim was doing something in the garden and found a garden snake. He brought it over to show Gavin. Gavin kept sticking his tounge out and hissing like a snake. It was so cute. As the seconds passed, Gavin was getting more and more comfortable with the snake...he soon was getting a little too comfortable.

This is his first encounter with it
3 seconds later he was wanting to squeeze it Tim gave it a little break
But then he decided to let Gavin play with it. Gavin carried all the way across the yard (and it's a big yard) because he wanted to show Papa his snake. Poor snake...
He thought it was soooo cool
He was showing me the snakes tail
He finally gave it to Papa and showed Papa the snakes tail and head
Tim finally went to go take it back to the garden and he found another snake. They took right to eachother. Poor thing only wanted some lovin'...not torture. Atleast she got some in the end.

Scarecrow Festival

We went to a Halloween Fair at Thanksgiving Point called the Scarecrow Festival. To prepare him for it, we told him that we were going to go see bats, pumpkins, spiders, ghosts, and scarecrows. When we picked up Grandma (mom-mom) and Grandpa (papa), Gavin kept telling them about the bats, pumpkins, ghosts, spiders and scarecrows. He was getting so excited for it.

We started out the outing with Gavin having a melt down because he wanted to go walk right in the middle of a game some kinds were playing and we wouldn't let him.

He immediately brightened up when two worker girls came and gave him some candy

Gavin spotted this HUGE blow-up shark a mile away and started running and screaming towards it. It turned out to be a really big slide, so Tim took him down it. Gavin is still talking about that BIG shark.
We took him in his first haunted house. He kept asking to see ghosts, so when I took him in, he would point to everything and ask if it was a ghost. I ended up just telling him that yes, it was. Half way through he got really scared of the dark and he started to whimper. When we got out, he started smiling and yelling about all the ghosts he saw...so I guess it was a fun experience
Of course he loved playing in the pretend airplane. He could have stayed there for hours
He got a dinosaur balloon
Tim took him on the Spider Speedway. Gavin and Tim, of course, both loved it
