Advent Calendar

I've been looking for a tutorial for an advent calendar, I finally found one that I really like. It will probably take me this entire next year to make because the ornaments are crazy detailed but really cute. I'm really excited to do this. HERE is the advent calendar and HERE are the ornaments.

Christmas Tree Skirt

Here's my latest project that I've been working on for the past week. There was always something going wrong, but after a TON of work, hand stitching and blistered finger tips, I finished and I'm happy with it. I figured since we don't have any presents to put under the tree, I better make something cute to put under it.

One of those days!

I had to go to church early today and when I left, Gavin was screaming and crying. Tim was trying so hard to get to church on time and so just let Gavin go like this:

Green boots and...
bed hair. Someone in our ward calls it 'monkey butt hair' After nursery, I even tried to fix it with water and it didn't do a thing!!

Sometimes we just have to pick our battles.

Wilton Course 3 final cake

I just finished my last class in course 3. This is the final cake I made. I made chocolate marshmallow fondant for the first time and it was SOOOOO GOOD!! I LOVE it! I didn't have time to make green frosting so that I could put leaves on, oh well. I was happy, though, with the outcome, especially for the short amount of time I had to work on it.

Gavin's Birthday

Last Thursday was Gavin's bday. Here's some pics from the party. Thanks to everyone who came (that includes you, Cody and Courtney...).

About 10 minutes before people came over, Tim accidentally pushed the corner of a pizza box into the side of the cake. This picture barely shows it, but a HUGE chunk was taken out. haha

I can't believe he's already 2!! DANG! I love this kid! He is seriously the BEST kid EVER!! He is always so happy. We're so spoiled. These past two years have been a blast with him in the family. He is sooo funny! He's already got an amazing sense of humor. Before I ever had him, I kept saying that I wanted a child that was full of energy; that I'd rather have a wild child that entertained me than have a quite child that was boring. People told me that I would regret saying that if I did have one...well...I have one and I don't have an ounce of regret. I couldn't ask for a more perfect kid. I LOVE YOU, GAVIN! and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Christmas Gifts

My friend, Macy, asked me to make her, her mom, and her sister aprons for Christmas. We went fabric shopping and I showed her the patterns that I have and she picked her stuff. I just finished them today! YAY! Here are the results:

This is for her sister. It's the same one that I made myself
This is Macy's
The back on this apron is different than most, but is REALLY comfortable!
And this is her mom's

Again, with the criss-cross back

Back to School

I have been looking into Culinary School for the past 4 years, and now I'm finally doing something about it. Up until last August, Utah had only one culinary school and that was at the community college. I didn't want to go there because they only had a 4 year program and I had already done my four years of school. A few weeks ago, I was doing some research on Pastry school and saw that Utah has a Pastry school at the Art Institute! I started the application process and before I knew it, I was having an interview with the Assistant of Admissions yesterday!!! SO EXCITING!! I went to the open house they were having on Saturday so that I could come with a list of questions. The interview went REALLY well. I've been concerned that I wouldn't be able to work schooling out with having a kid and wanting to have another baby in the near future, but come to find out, almost all of their culinary courses are taught in both the morning and the evening! Evening courses are from 6-10! How perfect! Some of the courses I can also take online (like the sanitation class and other lecture classes along those lines.) They have the option of getting an associates in Culinary Arts or Baking and Pastry or I can get a BS in Culinary Management. Their program is accelerated, also, so for an Associates, I could get that in 16 months and BS can be done in2 1/2 years! As of right now, I think I'll just do an Associates in Culinary Arts and take the advances Pastry and Baking classes on top of it and then I can decide if I want to just go ahead and get another BS in Culinary Managment. I've basically been accepted, I just need to finish up the essay on the application and send in my money. They'll then get my transcripts from BYU and set me up with a finicial aid advisor to figure out all the money stuff! I AM SO EXCITED!!!

Gavin found the DVD case to The Grinch the other day and has been watching every day now. He repeats almost EVERYTHING the Grinch says. It is soooo cute! For those of you who don't know, The Grinch is bisically my favorite movie. It seriously makes me sooo happy! I LOVE Christmas and The Grinch makes is even better! I'm so proud of him for choosing the best movie EVER to be his favorite! GO GAVIN!!

**Snow** YAY!!

It snowed a bunch Wednesday morning and Gavin couldn't wait to get his new snow clothes on and go play in it for basically his first time. So, at 9 in the morning we went out to play...and play....and play... After 2 hours he finally decided he was done for a little bit. He had so much fun throwing snow at me and trying to bury me in the snow. He's such a fun kid!

102 to 96

That was the score of the Jazz game on Wednesday night against the Blazers. Jazz won, of course. Tim got 5th row tickets to the game. We invited our old Boss, Sparty, and his wife, Emily, to go with us. It was pretty sweet watching the game that close to the court. A lot better than the nosebleed sections.

That's Sparty's big head and the only picture we got of him

This year was Gavin's first year to go trick-or-treating. He had more fun looking at all the Halloween decorations than he did getting free candy. He actually doesn't even like eating the candy. He'll open it up, take a lick and then say "here mommy!", hand me the candy and then open up another piece and do the same thing. We went to Tyler and Charlotte Huntzinger's neighborhood to go trick-or-treating. Savannah and Emmaline were great with Gavin. They held his hand and helped him get his candy at the door and at the houses where there were cool decorations that captured Gavin's attention, the girls would make sure that they got candy for Gavin too. They were a big help!

YW in Excellence

We had our YW in Excellence program on Wednesday. It went soooo well! The theme was God's Crown Jewels. I was in charge of refreshments and Ane asked me to make a cake. So I did. I baked and layered the top layer, let it settle for a few hours and then frosted it, let it settle some more and then put the fondant on. When I got up in the morning (the day of the activity), the cake had settled even more! I had to take the fondant off, carve the cake so it was round again, go to the store to buy more butter for the frosting and more marshmallows for the fondant, make more frosting and fondant and do it all over again! I tried using the Wilton glitter gels for the jewels, and when I put them on, it started dripping. I kept trying to fix it and finally gave up because I was so sick of working on this cake. That is why the middle jewel looks like crap. I also didn't feel like making a whole new batch of icing made out of crisco just to do a little bit of decorating, so I used my buttercream that was actually made out of butter instead of crisco, and well...of course it melted as I was working, so my straight lines on the harlequin pattern aren't so straight! haha! Oh well! Again...I was so frustrated with this cake, I just reached the point of not caring! I could have done better, but 15 hours of working on this cake was more than I could handle for a YW's activity. Oh well! It was still delicious, though!

Halloween Pillowcases

Tim's mom made us all Christmas pillowcases and I thought it was such a cute idea, so I made us some Halloween pillowcases. I made Gavin's and then one of mine and Tim's. After I cut out the fabric for the other one, I realized I cut it wrong! AH! So frustrating! So now I have to go back to the store and get more fabric so Tim can have a matching pillowcase! Grrrrr I wish I had the stuff for piping. It makes the case look so much better! Oh well...Something I won't forget for next time.
